The British consulting firm Henley & Partners has published its now traditional ranking of the most "powerful" passports in the world, that is, the documents that allow you to visit the largest number of countries possible without needing a visa or simply filling out a form to obtain one when you enter the destination country.

Each year, it evaluates passports from 199 countries and compares them to 227 potential destinations around the world.

It is not the only ranking of its kind, but it is the only one that uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) database, comparing it with information on entry regulations for almost every country in the world.

According to this year's ranking, Singapore's passport remains the most powerful, allowing visa-free travel to 193 countries, a very high number, although lower than last year's 195 countries.

Some rankings include several countries tied for first place, such as Japan and South Korea ranked second, and third countries, all European: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain (their membership in the European Union helps).

The Italian passport, along with other third countries, allows visa-free travel to 189 countries.

The United States and the United Kingdom, which until a decade ago had two of the most powerful passports, now rank in tenth and sixth place, respectively, with 182 and 186 places.

Germany was in first place in 2016 with 177 countries; it now ranks third, but with 189, due to an overall increase in visa-free and fast-track entry.

Comparing 2016 and 2025, China rose from 87th place to 60th, while Russia rose from 48th to 46th.

Albania ranks 43rd and the Albanian passport is recognized in 122 countries around the world where it can be entered without a visa.

While with a Kosovo passport you can travel to 82 countries around the world without a visa, it ranks 61st, one below China.

As has been the case for many years, the Afghan passport remains at the bottom of the list: it allows visa-free entry to only 25 countries (mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa and small states of Oceania).

The Iraqi passport allows entry to 30 countries, and the Syrian passport to 27, a slight decrease compared to last year.
