Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday praised US President Donald Trump for his "expressed determination" in calling for a shortened deadline to make progress to end Russia's war with Ukraine.
"Clear stance and determination expressed by @POTUS - just in time, when many things can change through the force for true peace," Zelenskiy wrote on the social platform X.
In his message, the Ukrainian leader thanked Trump , " for his focus on saving lives and stopping this terrible war ."
Zelensky later expanded on these comments in his nightly video address, describing Trump's statement as " especially important " given " Russia's continued efforts to inflict pain on Ukraine " through airstrikes on its cities.
The Ukrainian president identified tough sanctions against Russia as a "key element" in ending the conflict.
"Russia pays attention to sanctions, it pays attention to such losses," he said.
" Ukraine is ready to work productively with the United States, to work with President Trump to end this war with dignity and a secure and lasting peace ."
