The Brussels Assizes Court sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday evening the three perpetrators of the murder of prominent Albanian activist Enver Hadri.

On Tuesday, Veselin Vukotic and Andrija Draskovic were found guilty of executing the crime and Božidar Spačić was found guilty of ordering it, The Brussels Times reports.

Enver Hadri, chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Human Rights in Kosovo, was killed in his car while stopped at a red light in Saint-Gilles on February 25, 1990.

The professional judges and the twelve jurors did not grant any mitigating circumstances to the three convicts, sentencing them all to life imprisonment, the maximum sentence.

On February 25, 1990, at around 4:00 PM, Enver Hadri was in his car, stopped at a red light, when another vehicle stopped next to him.

The passenger window of this vehicle had been shot out, according to several witnesses. Enver Hadri, 49 years old at the time, was hit by a bullet in the head and died.

The investigation, which lasted several years, concluded that it was a political assassination, ordered by the intelligence services of the former Yugoslavia, with the logistical assistance of the Belgrade underworld.
