Former American First Lady Michelle Obama has reacted with concern about the possible outcome of the 2024 election, listing the November presidential race as one of the issues that keep her anxious and awake at night.
The statement in question came during an interview on Jay Shetty's podcast.
"I'm terrified of what could happen because our leaders matter. Who we elect, who speaks for us, who holds that pulpit, it affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted," Michelle said, CNN reports.
Her comments come as President Joe Biden begins his campaign for re-election. In the interview, the former first lady listed a number of other issues that concern her, including:
"Will people vote and why aren't they voting? These are the things that hold me up because you have no control over them. And you wonder: Where are our hearts?” Michelle asked.
Among other things, Obama pointed out that there was a double standard when it came to Trump's legal entanglements and what could happen if a similar trouble happened to a black man.
"Choices are different for people in life. I have learned this," she said. Without naming Trump, she said: “Other people can be indicted multiple times and still run for office. Black men can't. Just learn to be good.”
