DUI: Albanians are being excluded from institutions

Ali Ahmeti's largest Albanian opposition party, the Democratic Union for Integration, is sounding the alarm about the exclusion of Albanians from state institutions in North Macedonia by the Mickovski government, seriously endangering the multiethnic structure of this state.

DUI, through a statement, announces that it has officially informed the European Union, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other international partners about these exceptions in key institutions.

“DUI calls on the European Union, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and other international partners, who have played an important role in building inclusive institutions in North Macedonia, to address these concerns before they become structural and difficult to reverse. Ensuring fair representation and avoiding institutional marginalization are essential for North Macedonia’s journey towards a sustainable, democratic and European future.”

It is further emphasized that these actions also contradict the Ohrid Agreement, with which for more than two decades significant progress has been made in the integration of Albanians, the second largest people in the country, into state structures.

To give an example, for the DUI, the situation seems alarming where there is a lack of Albanians in leadership positions in the defense and security institutions.

Meanwhile, in the field of culture, the latest allocation of state funds shows a significant underrepresentation of Albanians, with Albanian projects receiving less than 12% of the budget, even though Albanians make up over 29% of the country's population.
