The United States has lifted sanctions against Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories.

The decision is a positive development for the Italian lawyer, who was blacklisted by the US Treasury Department after her strong criticism of Israel. However, the news came on the heels of another decision not in her favor. The Paris council rejected a proposal to give the Albanian the title of “honorary citizen” of the French capital.

The proposal was rejected with 76 votes against and 48 in favor.

The lifting of the sanctions by the US came after a court order. A notice published on the official website of the Treasury Department confirmed the removal of Albanese from the blacklist, which included measures blocking the use of major credit cards and conducting banking transactions globally.
