US sends dozens of refueling planes to Israel, concerns grow over escalation

The US administration has notified Israel that it will send dozens of additional refueling planes to the country, at a time when concerns are growing about a possible expansion of military operations against Iran.

According to three American and Israeli officials, the deployment of the new aircraft comes as President Donald Trump is considering several military scenarios for a broader offensive against Iran, after presenting the new plans at a meeting held at the White House.

Among the options considered are attacks on Iranian infrastructure, including energy plants, further strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and attacks on an underground complex suspected of military use.

Trump has not yet made a final decision, but US and Israeli officials say he could order an escalation of operations in the coming days.

The US military currently has about 30 tanker aircraft at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv and a similar number at Ramon Airport in southern Israel, according to reports. With the delivery of the new aircraft, their numbers are expected to return to pre-war levels.

Israeli officials say the US military prefers operating from Ben Gurion, as other air bases in the region are considered more exposed to potential Iranian attacks.

Meanwhile, tensions between the US, Israel and Iran have risen sharply. The US military has carried out attacks on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz area and on Iran's southern coast, while Tehran has intensified attacks on US bases in several countries in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Iran that any attack on Israel would bring a more powerful response.

The deployment of US supply aircraft has also become a contentious issue within Israel. Their presence at Ben Gurion Airport has limited the airport's operational space and raised concerns about the impact on air traffic, especially during the summer travel season.

Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev, a close ally of Netanyahu, has called for the planes to be relocated or their number to be limited, while the Defense Ministry and the Israeli military have opposed this request.

According to sources, the Trump administration has asked the Israeli government to facilitate the deployment of additional aircraft, while the final decision is expected to be made by Prime Minister Netanyahu.
