US strikes Iran for sixth consecutive night, Tehran threatens to block oil exports

The U.S. military ended its latest wave of airstrikes against Iran at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, U.S. Central Command said. It was the sixth consecutive night of strikes by U.S. forces. While the U.S. bombing has focused largely on southern Iran, some recent strikes have reached deep inside the country.

Several bridges in southern Iran's Hormozgan province were hit in the latest round of US strikes, the governor's office said, according to Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.

Many of the bridges that were targeted were on roads connected to the city of Bandar Abbas, a coastal city on the Strait of Hormuz, home to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval base.

Earlier, Fars reported that a railway crossing in Bandar Abbas had been hit. Iran's Energy Ministry said power lines in Bandar Abbas and surrounding villages had been damaged, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

A photo published by state broadcaster IRIB and geo-located by CNN showed a damaged Kahurestan Bridge, connecting Bandar Abbas to the city of Shiraz, after it was reportedly hit by a US strike.

At least seven people were killed and nine injured, several state media reported.

Qatar said it intercepted a missile attack after CNN reporters heard loud explosions in Doha. Kuwait said it was responding to threats and sirens were sounded in Bahrain.

Neither side has publicly signaled a willingness to return to negotiations. Iran has warned that the Strait of Hormuz is an "unbreakable red line" and has responded harshly to threats from US President Donald Trump to strike Iranian infrastructure.

The US hit an empty oil tanker bound for Kharg Island, an economic lifeline for Tehran, after reimposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have targeted US forces in Syria's al-Tanf, in what it called revenge for deadly US attacks in Iranshahr, according to a statement reported on Friday by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

US military forces left the strategic al-Tanf garrison in February after more than a decade, US Central Command said in a statement at the time.


Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said that as long as the US action in the Strait of Hormuz continues, "not a drop of oil or gas will be exported from the region."
