Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, has indicated the conditions that Kosovo must meet to become a member of this international organization.
He stated that one of the main demands is for Kosovo to recognize the European Court of Human Rights.
"To become part of the Council of Europe, certain criteria must be met. One of the conditions is to become a member of the European Convention on Human Rights, to recognize the European Court of Human Rights, the most important body of the Council of Europe, and also to implement all the judgments of the ECtHR," he told Klan Kosova.
"I think this is in the interest of all citizens, i.e. states, member states, to have the opportunity to have access to the Court and to be familiar with all human rights violations and also to address them and make decisions about them," Berset added.
He added that in addition to this criterion, another important issue remains the involvement of all Kosovo citizens in the discussion and decision-making processes, including those in the northern part of the country.
"You know exactly some points of the conditions set on the table by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that will be a key and very important element of all discussions," he concluded.
