Moscow expects Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to formally offer to mediate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Kazakhstan on October 13, a Kremlin aide said.

Turkey may raise ideas for peace in Ukraine and Erdogan will probably propose something formally during talks with Putin, Yuri Ushakov told reporters in Moscow on October 12.

He said he does not rule out that Erdogan "will actively touch on this topic" during Putin's meeting with Erdogan.

If these talks happen, they will most likely be held in either Istanbul or Ankara, he added.

Turkey, which has remained neutral throughout the conflict in Ukraine, has good relations with Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he will not hold talks with Putin. Asked about Zelensky's position, Ushakov said: "I would like to tell him: never say never."

Turkey, which is a member of NATO, has not joined the sanctions that the West has imposed on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24.
