Russia has accused Ukrainian secret services of killing the daughter of one of Vladimir Putin's allies in a car bomb blast near Moscow at the weekend.

Journalist Darya Dugina, 29, died on Saturday when a vehicle she was driving exploded near Russia's capital.

Her prominent ultranationalist father, Alexander Dugin, said to be close to Putin, may have been the intended target of the attack.

Ukrainian officials have denied any involvement in the blast.

But Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said monday it has uncovered the authors and said Ukraine was directly responsible.

The FSB told Russian media that a Ukrainian woman had moved to Russia in July along with her young daughter - but that she was in fact an agent of Ukrainian secret services.

The woman, she said, rented an apartment in the same building as Ms. Dugina for a month, preparing for the attack. At the time, she allegedly followed the journalist through Moscow with a Mini Cooper - for which she used three different license plates.

The suspect later escaped to Estonia after the explosion, the FSB said.

An adviser to Ukraine's President Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak, said the FSB's version of events was "Russian propaganda" from "a fictional world."

The FSB later released footage of the accused's car entering Russia, its security footage entering what is said to be Mrs Dugina's building and eventually leaving Russia for Estonia.
