Serbian President Vucic hopes for an agreement with Kosovo on documents and car license plates before September 1. Otherwise, he warned that Kosovo Serbs may leave all institutions.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said on Sunday in Belgrade that he has the support of the representatives of the Kosovo Serbs to find a compromise solution with the government in Pristina on the issue of Serbian vehicle license plates and travel documents.
Since the meeting on August 18, where he met in Brussels with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the President of Serbia had not spoken to the media.
After a meeting on Sunday, August 21 in Belgrade with representatives of Kosovo Serbs, Vučić addressed the nation in a press conference.
Will a compromise solution be found?
Vuqiq said that he is determined to seek a compromise solution with Kosovo for identification documents and car license plates within ten days, as the Kosovo government is expected to start implementing reciprocity measures on these two issues on September 1.
He warned that Kosovo Serbs may leave all institutions if no solution is found for their concerns.
The Serbian president said that he had proposed that Kosovo Serbs should not be included in the decision on personal documents and be equipped with license plates that are neutral to the status of Kosovo, but the Kosovo side, he said, "rejected these compromise proposals."
According to Vuīić, "Pristina's goal is the abolition of everything related to the Serbian state and the persecution of Serbs from Kosovo."
Vucic threatens to remove Serbs from Kosovo's institutions
"I was informed by the representatives of the Kosovo Serbs that if no solution is found for a short time, if the persecution of the Serbs is not stopped, the politicians will leave all the institutions of Kosovo during the next month, and then the judges and the officers the police will follow the example until the end of September", said Vuqiq, warning, as he said, "the undoing of the Brussels order agreed with the agreement".
According to the Serbian president, in the last round of dialogue in Brussels, Kosovo has talked about a final agreement of six points:
"Kosovo asked on Thursday to discuss a general agreement for the normalization of relations that included mutual recognition, war damages, dealing with the issue of missing persons and rape victims, symmetry in the rights of Serbs and Albanians in Serbia as well as the review of previously agreed agreements", said Vuqiq.
The Government of Kosovo, after Thursday's meeting in Brussels, said that it had discussed two issues, the general framework of the final agreement and Serbian license plates and documents, for which it is promised that from September 1, measures will be implemented for this matter. the same from Kosovo.
The meeting that did not bring any result
The August 18 meeting in Brussels between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic failed and no agreement was reached, but international authorities asked the parties to avoid tensions like those of July 31.
On this day, groups of Serbs blocked the roads in the north of Kosovo, thus opposing the decisions of the Kosovo government for reciprocity in travel documents and car license plates issued by Serbia.
Serbia applies the same measures for citizens of Kosovo who pass through Serbia for ten years now.
NATO peacekeeping forces have increased their presence in the northern part of Kosovo, while the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, warned that they are ready to intervene if stability in Kosovo is endangered./ DW
