The U.S. government has received more than 350 reports of what are known as "unidentified aerial objects," or UFOs for short, since March 2021, and half are unexplained, according to a report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released Thursday. .

The Pentagon's office responsible for the follow-up and study of reports has previously identified 163 of them as "balloons". A number of other reports have been attributed to drones, birds, atmospheric phenomena or garbage, such as plastic bags, writes "CNN".

But "initial separation does not mean resolved or unidentified," the report says. The remaining 171 cases continue to have no explanation from the US government. "Some of the unclassified objects appear to have demonstrated unusual flight or performance characteristics and further analysis is needed."

The first document was released in 2021 and examined 144 cases, of which only one could be explained by the investigators. Thursday's report is a drastic increase from its predecessor, and some of the 366 cases in total cover incidents that occurred before March 2021, but 250 of them occurred after that date.

Thursday's report acknowledged the possibility that the footage may represent a foreign intelligence platform, but investigators do not appear to have gathered any evidence to support that conclusion.
