Putin has no intention of stopping war

Macron urged Putin to end the war in Ukraine, during a phone call between Putin, Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Schulz. But a French presidency official, quoted by Reuters, says Putin did not appear ready to end the war.

The two Western European leaders also reiterated the call for a ceasefire as a condition for full negotiations.

The French presidency also accused Putin of "lying" after saying Ukrainian soldiers were responsible for human rights violations, AFP reports.

Meanwhile, Russian nuclear regulator Rosatom says activities to ensure the safe operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are being carried out in coordination with the UN nuclear supervisor, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The company says a team of Russian specialists are in place at the station to restore power to the thermal power plant.

Rosatom officials also said Ukrainian personnel remain under control of the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia plant.

The statement comes after claims made by Petro Kotin, head of Ukraine's state-owned nuclear company Energoatom on Friday that Russian engineers have been installed to manage zaporizhia station.
