Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which he stressed the need for an immediate cessation of military actions against the Islamic Republic by the US and Israel.

According to information published by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, the Kremlin leader called for conflicts in the Middle East to be resolved not through military force, but through dialogue and diplomatic negotiations. He stressed that stability in the region can only be achieved through a return to peaceful talks and respect for international law.

During the conversation, Putin also expressed his condolences to the Iranian people and the country's leaders, following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as the loss of his family members, state officials, and many civilians who lost their lives during attacks in the Iranian state.

For his part, Iranian President Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its solidarity and support for the Iranian people. He briefed Putin in detail on the latest developments in the situation in Iran and the region. The two leaders agreed to continue contacts and consultations to monitor the situation and discuss further diplomatic steps.

On the other hand, Putin stressed that he is also in constant contact with the leaders of the countries that are part of the Gulf Cooperation Council, aiming to coordinate efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

The situation in the region has escalated significantly since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. Israeli authorities stated that the aim of the operation is to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Washington warned that it could destroy the Iranian navy and defense industry, and also called for political changes within the country.

The first day of the attacks saw the reported assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, an event that shocked the country and further heightened tensions in the region. In response, Iran has launched missile attacks on Israeli territory and on US military bases in several parts of the Middle East.
