President Macron warns citizens about economic difficulties

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned citizens that in the coming months they will face economic difficulties in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

He made these statements during their first meeting with his ministers after the summer holidays.

In addition to the war in Ukraine, France has been hit by drought, fires and storms this summer. He said the government will also launch long-awaited plans to combat climate change. Macron, who won a second presidential term in April but then lost his overall majority in parliament, faces a number of challenges in the coming months, including persuading reluctant lawmakers to approve the 2023 budget.

Reforms of pension schemes and unemployment benefits are also underway and if they are not implemented they may cause street protests.

A key question remains whether the electricity and gas price caps that expire at the end of the year will remain the same or change.
