The Kosovo Police announced that they have closed the border points in Jarinje and Bërnjak, which connect Kosovo and Serbia, to traffic. Law enforcement authorities requested that citizens use other crossing points for traffic.

Police said this is a security precaution, after local Serbs blocked several roads in the north in protest at the arrest of a former member of the Kosovo Police.

"The blocking of the roads happened mainly on some roads, including national roads of the municipalities of Leposaviq, Zveçan and Zubin Potok, infringing and preventing the freedom of free movement of citizens and goods", said the Kosovo Police. The authorities in Kosovo said that on December 10 they arrested the former police officer of Kosovo, Dejan Pantiq.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, the former Serbian policeman organized the "terrorist attack" on the offices of the Central Election Commission in the north of Kosovo.

He added that Pantiq is accused of committing terrorist acts and attacking the constitutional order.

Since December 6, several incidents have been recorded in the north of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, at the time when the electoral authorities were continuing their work for the organization of local elections, which were originally scheduled to be held on December 18.

However, the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced that the elections have been postponed to April next year.

Lista Serbe - the main party of Serbs in Kosovo - in November announced the resignation of Serbian officials from the municipal and central level, including from the Kosovo Police, the judiciary and other institutions of Kosovo in the north.

These resignations came as a sign of opposition to the decision of the Government of Kosovo to re-register cars with illegal Serbian license plates.

The Serbian List also opposes the holding of elections for the leaders of the municipality of North Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and Zveçan./REL
