Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, asserted on Friday that Moscow must push the "borders of threats" as far as possible, "even if they are the borders of Poland".

Medvedev made the strong statements through a post on Telegran, as the 1st anniversary of the start of the Russian aggression in Ukraine is marked.

The former Russian president said that his country will "win in Ukraine" and this will happen as soon as possible.

"Victory will be achieved. We all want it to be achieved as soon as possible. And that day will come. We will return our territories and we will surely protect our people who suffered during the years of genocide and shelling," Medvedev said.

In March 2014, Russia illegally annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, in a move denounced by the UN General Assembly, the EU and the US.

That year also saw the start of a conflict in eastern Ukraine between Kiev and Russian-backed separatists.

After the war, Medvedev said that negotiations are expected and a peace agreement will be reached.

"The motives of the main enemies of our country are obvious: to weaken Russia as much as possible, to bleed us for a long time. Therefore, they are not interested in ending the conflict. But sooner or later, according to historical laws, they will. And then, there will be some kind of agreement," he said.

Medvedev added that this agreement would probably not include specific terms on borders.

He said Ukraine is likely to maintain its "anti-Russian" stance, perhaps turning to an attempt to "provoke a world conflict."

"This can not happen. That is why it is so important to achieve all the goals of the special military operation. To push the borders of threats to our country as much as possible, even if they are the borders of Poland. "Neo-Nazism must be destroyed on earth ... so that the world can find the long-awaited peace," Medvedev said.
