Coalition parties in Macedonian government: Reject French proposal for Bulgarian

The government is splitting in northern Macedonia after part of the ruling coalition came out against the French proposal to lift the Bulgarian veto and pave the way for the European Union along with Albania.

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLD), DOM and Pavle Trajanov's Democratic League have said that if Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski accepts the French proposal, then they will leave the ruling coalition.

INA writes that the leader of the PLD, Goran Milevski, has already stated that he opposes the French plan for resolving the dispute between Sofia and Skopje and the start of talks for Macedonia's EU membership.

As an argument why he is against, Milevski adds that bilateral disputes should not become European conditions, that any proposed solution must obtain the consent of the Assembly of Northern Macedonia. Similar views have been expressed by the leaders of other parties.

On the other hand, this rift within the Government has been exploited by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE, which has again called for early elections.

VMRO-DPMNE in a press conference asked the coalition partners in the SDSM Government and DUI to reject the proposal and called on Kovacevski, if he thinks the proposal is good, to go to the polls.

The party says that the French proposal has received the consent of Prime Minister Kovacevski and Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani and that he must have passed through the communication channels between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Republic.
