A newly appointed minister in the new government of French President Emmanuel Macron is under investigation for rape.

The Paris public prosecutor's office said Wednesday it had opened an investigation into rape allegations against French Minister of State for Development and Francophonie Chrysoula Zacharopoulou after two complaints were received.

The first rape complaint was filed on May 25, which led to the opening of the investigation on May 27. A second report was filed on June 16, the prosecution said.

Zacharopoulou previously worked as a gynecologist before moving on to politics. French media previously reported that the complaints were related to her professional activity.

Another newly appointed minister, Damien Abad, Minister for Solidarity and Persons with Disabilities, now faces growing pressure for rape allegations made by two women.
