The last farewell was given to the 5-year-old girl who was killed by her mother. A long applause and a flight of white balloons accompanied the white coffin of little Elena Del Pozzo as she arrived at Catania Cathedral.

About three hundred people waited for the funeral procession and about ten wreaths of white, yellow, pink, and orange roses placed in the churchyard. Flags lowered at half-mast from all municipal offices to honor the little one. Shops, political, social and production organizations and sports associations were invited to attend the funeral ceremony.

The entrance to the cathedral of the small white coffin with white flowers was greeted by a long applause from the people who rose to their feet. The funeral rite was led by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Catania, Luigi Renna, who prayed by placing his hand on the small coffin.

"All of us, as judges, are always ready to stone someone who has made a mistake. I read on a city wall a sentence that calls for eternal rest for Elena and eternal torment for her mother. I believe that little Elena would not agree with these words, like any child ", said the Archbishop.

"And if one day there are other victims like our little Elena, it will be because someone will have sown the weeds of hatred and revenge in the field of God. Let us strive to sow what Christ and every man alive by good will abundantly distribute: mercy, piety, justice, dialogue, prevention of all forms of violence. Only in this way will there be no more such funerals. "The Blessed Virgin and Saint Agatha take little Elena by the hand and pray for all of us adults, because we know how to reach out, to stand on tiptoe, to keep up with the children."
