Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, a Vladimir Putin loyalist who took up a new post this week, predicted that next year there will be war between Germany and France while in the United States there will be a civil war that will led to the election of Elon Musk as president, reports Reuters .

Mr. Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's security council, served as president during a four-year period when Mr. Putin was prime minister. He appears to have been reinstated in the Kremlin, which announced on Monday that he would now serve as Mr Putin's deputy on a body that oversees the military industry.

In his list of predictions for 2023, published on his personal Telegram and Twitter accounts, Mr Medvedev also predicted Britain rejoining the EU, which he said would in turn break up.

Elon Musk responded to the suggestion that he would be elected US president by tweeting "Epic Message!!", but he also criticized some of Mr Medvedev's predictions. The latter has praised Mr. Musk for the proposal made in the past for Ukraine to give territory to Russia, in exchange for a peace agreement.

Since Russia's attack on Ukraine on February 24, Mr Medvedev has re-emerged on the political scene as a supporter of military action, framing the conflict in apocalyptic and religious terms and referring to Ukrainians as "cockroaches", language that Kiev says it is clearly a call for genocide. Last week he made a rare visit to China, holding foreign policy talks with President Xi Jinping.

Political analyst Vladimir Pastukhov said Mr. Medvedev's new and vocal approach appeared to have found favor with his boss.

"Medvedev's Telegram posts have at least one reader, and indeed one admirer: Putin," wrote Pastukhov, a professor of political science at University College London, on his Telegram account.
