US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth described the US military operation against Iran's nuclear facilities as "brave and brilliant", during a statement to the media from the Pentagon.

He said that "many presidents have dreamed of delivering the final blow to Iran's nuclear program, but none succeeded, until Donald Trump came along."

Hegseth added that "when President Trump speaks, the world should listen," emphasizing that no other country but the US "would have been able to carry out such an operation."

The United States is making repeated efforts to communicate with Iranian officials following air strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, as President Donald Trump and his administration leaders call for a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

"I can confirm that messages are being sent, both public and private, through multiple channels directly to the Iranians, giving them every opportunity to come to the negotiating table," said US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

He added that Iran is fully aware of the American position: "They understand exactly what the US position is, and what steps they can take to make peace possible. We hope they will do that."
