"I don't regret it" - Meloni talks about breaking off friendship with Donald Trump

"I don't regret anything I've done." That's what Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said at a press conference after the NATO summit in Ankara, responding to those who asked her if she regretted the political investment she made in her relationship with US President Donald Trump.

"I made this political investment out of my belief in the unity of the West," she added.

She acknowledged that her relationship with the American president has changed in recent months, but stressed that they continue to share common positions on issues such as immigration and opposition to what she described as "Woke culture."

"It's not a strategy I implemented with the arrival of Trump, but an approach I have with all my interlocutors. I have points in common with Trump, from immigration to 'Woke' culture."

"Things are going as we have seen them, but I do not change my opinion. I have a clear strategy in mind, which stems from what is in the national interest of Italy and Europe, namely strengthening the unity of the West," Meloni said.

During the NATO Summit, Trump described Meloni as "a good man," but at the same time repeated criticism of Italy for its lack of greater support for US military operations against Iran.
