The assassination attempt against the former American president, Donald Trump, has caused a wave of international reactions

Shocked reactions are coming from around the world after the shooting of former US President Donald Trump at an election rally on Sunday in Pennsylvania. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wished Donald Trump a speedy recovery and stressed that "such acts of violence threaten democracy."

On Platform X, Scholz wrote, "The attack against presidential candidate Donald Trump is despicable. I wish him a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with the people affected by this assassination."

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also wished Trump a speedy recovery. The green politician stressed that "violence should never become a means of political confrontation, no matter what the reason. Elections in democracy are won with votes and not with weapons."

American President Joe Biden reacted immediately after the attack against his rival in the upcoming presidential elections and said that he is grateful to hear that Trump is safe and in good condition. "I pray for his family and for everyone who was in the myth," Biden added. "There is no place for this kind of violence in America. We must come together as a nation to condemn violence."

Even President Macron condemned the violence and called the act of attack against Trump "a tragedy for our democracies". And Polish President Andrzej Duda called the assassination attempt of President Trump "a shocking moment" for the world, not just the USA. This act is a "shocking moment not only for America, but for the entire free and democratic world," Duda wrote Sunday on the X platform.

Messages of support for former President Trump are also coming from China. The President, Xi Jinping, has expressed his support and that he is affected by the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing. China follows "carefully" the developments surrounding the assassination.

"This horrific act of political violence at a peaceful campaign rally has no place in America and must be unanimously and forcefully condemned," said House Republican Speaker Mike Johnson.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he was horrified by what happened and relieved to hear Trump was safe.
