Egyptian billionaire donates £5m to Conservatives to defeat Labour

The " war chest " of the British Conservatives has been filled with a donation of 5 million pounds that has been donated by the Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Mansour, who wants maximum commitment from Rishi Sunak to defeat Labour.

In 22 years, it is the biggest political gift given to the Conservative party to shore up its finances amid fears it will be defeated by Labor at the next election.

Mansour sees Sunak as a prime minister capable of getting the country's economy back on track, so he gave the OK for the seven-figure donation.

" I believe that this country has a very capable prime minister. One who understands how growth is generated in the modern economy. He understands the importance of technology and innovation.

He can make the modern economy work for all UK citizens. I see what he has achieved in his first months in office and I think what he can do in five years ", said the businessman when he was asked why he contributed this record amount to the finances of the ruling party .

In addition to running the Mansour Group, the Alexandria-born businessman has just been revealed as a co-owner of the San Diego Major League Soccer team in the United States.

He is also a former Egyptian cabinet minister and in February agreed a multi-million pound tax settlement with HMRC following an investigation into one of his companies, Unatrac.

Meanwhile, the donation comes as the Conservatives are reported to have sacked cleaners and security staff at their London headquarters in a bid to shore up finances ahead of local elections.
