The special envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, claimed that there is a great risk that the Russians will interfere in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro.
In an interview with the Montenegrin news agency, MINA, Escobar admitted that such a risk has also existed in the US elections, and Moscow's methods are no different.
"You can be sure that they will try to use all the ways, and all the methods they know, starting from disinformation, in trying to divert Montenegro from its European path. Therefore, I say yes, I am concerned about the elections not only in Montenegro, but also in the region", said Escobar.
As for the Montenegrin citizens, the senior American official welcomed what he called "the right choice" on their part. "Every time the citizens decided before an election, they chose the only real path before Montenegro - Euro-Atlantic integration", Escobar emphasized.
According to him, he said that "anyone who keeps Montenegro on its European course, anyone who remains committed to Montenegro's obligations from NATO membership and who is an ally in the fight against corruption, can expect the support of the US- of".
Here, Escobar acknowledged the merits of the former president, Milo Gjukanovic, saying that he led the country on the right path through NATO membership and through rapprochement with the European Union. Parliamentary elections in Montenegro will be held on June 11.
