Thousands of people have offered to adopt the baby rescued from the rubble in Syria while still attached to her mother's umbilical cord.

Aya, which means miracle in Arabic, is in hospital in good health.

Thousands of people on social media have asked about the details of her adoption. "I would like to adopt him and give him a decent life", says one of them. A news anchor from Kuwait said: "I am ready to take care of him and adopt this child...if the legal procedures allow me."

The hospital's director, Khalid Attiah, has received dozens of calls from people from all over the world who want to adopt Aya. The director himself has a 4-month-old daughter and said: "I will not allow anyone to adopt her for now. Until her distant relatives return, I will keep this child as my own."

At the moment, his wife is breastfeeding him as she is doing with their daughter.

Aya was a newborn who escaped from the rubble of a building that collapsed in the earthquake in Jindayris city. Her mother, father and four siblings lost their lives. The photo of Aya while she was in the arms of a man, covered in dust, made the rounds of the networks.
