It is rare that we see a prisoner take an oath to perform a public duty.
Such a scene was recorded in Greece, where the member of "Golden Dawn", Ilias Kasidiaris, was sworn in as a municipal councilor of Athens.
Handcuffed and accompanied by multiple security forces, Kasidaris appeared at the Greek capital's town hall and made sure to smile for the cameras.
His oath comes after he received a special permit from Domoko prison, where he is serving a 13-year sentence as one of the leaders of "Golden Dawn", the far-right party that was declared a criminal organization.
Kasidaris won the councilor seat after running in October's local elections for mayor of Athens from prison, vowing to preserve her Greek identity.
He ran for the leadership of the capital under the banner of the "Free Athens" alliance, after in May the Greek Supreme Court blocked the participation of the far-right Greek National Party in the elections.
