Jeff Bezos just lost his status as the second richest person in the world, falling to third place. Indian business tycoon Gautam Adani has taken his place as he rapidly climbs the ranks of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Elon Musk, still the no. 1 richest with 260 billion dollars in the account, he may have to take care of his positions.

It took Adani less than 10 months to reach second place after starting the year ranked 14th and quickly climbing the rankings. This is the first time a person from Asia has been ranked so high on Bloomberg's list.

Adani's $146.9 billion fortune, mostly tied up in the holdings of his sprawling conglomerate Adani Group, still lags far behind Musk's $260 billion.

Shares of some Adan companies have risen more than 1,000% since June 2020 – reflecting investor optimism about the conglomerate's strength in areas such as infrastructure and renewable energy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritized for development.

Bezos' net worth fell to $145.8 billion, according to Bloomberg, as tech stocks took a hit on Friday.
