The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has taken on the role of mediator to resolve the crisis between Kosovo and Serbia.
The head of the Elysee Palace met the parties separately in Paris, first President Aleksandër Vucic and then Prime Minister Albin Kurti and President Vjosa Osmani.
The leaders of Kosovo came out with a joint statement after the conversation, announcing that before Macron they confirmed their commitment to peace and stability and asked for the conclusion of the dialogue with Serbia with mutual recognition.
Kurti and Osmani talked about the latest developments in the North and mentioned the destabilizing tendencies of Belgrade, through the strengthening of illegal structures and the intimidation of Serbian citizens.
As for the Franco-German proposal, they have stated that it serves as a good basis for further discussions. On the other hand, Vucic said that he does not believe that he will meet with Kurt during his stay in the French capital, even though he expressed his readiness for such a confrontation.
The Serbian president confirmed that he talked with Macron about the recent tensions and claimed that he handed him the evidence for the accusations recently issued against Kosovo. He also underlined that the conditions for the return of Serbs to the institutions are clear, hinting that it is about the formation of the association and the withdrawal of the decision on license plates.
