The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that the political project for the exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia has failed, although it is not dead yet.

In an interview for Al Jazeera, Kurti said that this will not happen and that the exchange of territories is a formula for war.

"I am sure that the Serbian president is nostalgic for those times, which means that the political project of territory exchanges has failed, but the idea is not dead. But nostalgia is not a feeling with which we can make progress. The exchange of territories will not happen. Exchanging territories is a formula for war. You cannot have perfect ethnic boundaries, there will always be people who feel they are on the wrong side of it. What we need are republics that have normal relations and democracy. Democracies do not fight each other".

During the interview, Albin Kurti said that he requested an increase in the number of forces of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Kosovo, due to the increase in cooperation between Serbia and Russia.

"We are worried about the ties between Serbia and Russia, that's why we need more troops... Cooperation between them has increased after the start of the war in Ukraine, and that's why we need additional NATO troops in Kosovo," he said during a interview for Al Jazeera.

On January 1, Kurti called on NATO to increase the number of peacekeeping forces in Kosovo.

But, on January 5, NATO told REL that it has not received any official request from Kosovo to increase the number of troops in its mission, KFOR, and that they currently have a sufficient presence in Kosovo.
