The head of Wagner calls on Putin to end the war: We achieved the planned goals

The head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has caused a stir with a Telegram post about what could potentially be the end of the war in Ukraine.

Many Ukrainian media have paid attention to the part of the text of the 61-year-old, in which it is said: "Power and society, today must put a stop to the special military operation", reports the news agency dpa.

Even after more than a year of war, Russia still refers to the war in Ukraine as a "special military operation".

Prigozhin, who posted this text on Telegram on Friday, added that "the ideal option would be for the special military operation to end and for Russia to announce that it has achieved all the planned goals - and in a way we have those".

Russia started the war in Ukraine in February of last year, but it has not managed to penetrate into Kiev and other big cities.

Russian forces have occupied parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, including the Crimean Peninsula, which they annexed in 2014.
