Kosovo postpones for 48 hours the start of fines for license plates

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has postponed for 48 hours the implementation of the second phase of the decision on the re-registration of cars with illegal Serbian license plates in the RKS - Republic of Kosovo.

The second phase envisages the imposition of fines of 150 euros for citizens who drive around with such license plates.

The request for a 48-hour postponement was made by the United States.

The American Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, has said that the United States has asked the Government of Kosovo for a 48-hour postponement of the decision on the imposition of fines, to allow European and American officials to engage with Kosovo and Serbia to found a solution to this issue.

In response to the American ambassador's request, Kurti has said that he is ready to work with the US and the EU to find a solution in the next two days.

The US Department of State has expressed its disappointment over the failure to reach an agreement between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurt, and the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučič, on this matter, after the several-hour meeting they held on November 21 in Brussels, under the mediation of the European Union .
