Former US President Donald Trump has until next Friday to turn himself in to a detention center in Atlanta after he was indicted on Monday on charges of trying to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia.
Trump and 18 other co-defendants have been told they have until noon on August 25 to turn themselves in to authorities or face warrants for their arrest.
The former president must turn himself in at the Fulton County Jail, located on Atlanta's Rice Street, a facility built in 1985 that is slated for demolition because it is overcrowded and lacks basic sanitation.
Outbreaks of scabies, COVID-19, and several inmates have been found dead in their cells at the overcrowded detention center.
Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat said officials will follow normal practices for all other inmates when Trump turns himself in. The procedure, he explained, usually involves being fingerprinted, handcuffed and a photo taken.
Georgia's indictment is the fourth in a row for the former President, who has not yet announced to the public whether he will surrender voluntarily, or wait for an arrest warrant to be issued for him.
So, footage from inside the detention center shows the appalling conditions in which the detainees are kept, broken equipment, dirty halls and trash all over the area.
