
A powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook Taiwan this morning (August 16).
Seismic tremors have been localized in the maritime area, by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The earthquake was recorded at 7:35 a.m. local time, 1:35 a.m. European time, and had a depth of 15 kilometers off the east coast, near the city of Hualien. There is no danger of tsunami.
From social networks, there are images of skyscrapers (hundred-story towers) swaying for a few seconds even in the capital city of Taipei. but at the moment there is no news of damage to people or things.
The media also published images of the hundred-story towers swinging from the inside and outside, like a pendulum, but which resisted the vibrations.
This year, Taiwan and the Asian region have been affected by many seismic tremors, resulting in fatalities and tsunami warnings.
