The European Union reacted to Serbia after Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin paid a visit to Moscow, where he met with Kremlin officials.

Brussels said such meetings in Russia, at a time of aggression against Ukraine, were against the bloc's values and its membership process.

"The EU has been clear with its partners: relations with Russia cannot be normal after Russia's unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. We want all candidate countries to be considered as reliable European partners with common principles, values, security and prosperity," the EU said in a statement.

Vulin, according to the Serbian government's announcement, thanked Russian security structures for "warning about planning mass riots and an attempted coup" in Serbia.

During his visit to Moscow, Vulin told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Serbia is proud not to be part of "anti-Russian hysteria."
