German journalist Michael Martens says Kosovo could soon join the Council of Europe.

In an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Martens says Kosovo is planning to apply to the Council of Europe after the French presidential election.

According to him, with the exclusion of Russia from this institution, Belgrade's campaign against Pristina seems less promising and will have no result.

"The Council of Europe may soon have a new member. According to information from FAZ from Pristina, the Government of Kosovo is planning to apply for membership after the elections in France, possibly in May. "This could lead to Kosovo's accession in 2023. Prospects are assessed as good in the capital of Kosovo, after the exclusion of, which is an ally of Serbia", said Martens.

In the April 12 parliamentary session, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that Kosovo will apply this year to several international organizations, such as the Council of Europe and the European Union.

The Council of Europe suspended Russia's membership on February 25, a day after the invasion of Ukraine.

On March 15, Russia decided to leave the Council of Europe, preceded by a possible expulsion from the continent's largest human rights organization.
