US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he and First Lady Melania Trump have been deeply affected by the images of hunger and starvation coming out of Gaza.
“She thinks it’s terrible,” Trump said of the first lady. “And she sees the same pictures that you see, that all of us see. And I think everybody, unless they’re very cold-hearted — or worse, crazy — there’s nothing you can say except it’s terrible when you see the children.”
"And they are children, you know, whether they talk about hunger or not, they are children who are suffering from hunger," he told reporters aboard Air Force One while traveling from Scotland to Washington, DC.
Trump's comments come just a day after he announced plans for the United States to establish "food hubs" in Gaza and after publicly rejecting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's claim that there is no hunger in the enclave.
"Those kids look very hungry," Trump said Tuesday.
