Erdogan meets the survivors during the visit to the epicenter of the earthquake

Kahramanmaras was the epicenter of the second earthquake to hit Turkey on Monday and is only about 40 miles north of the epicenter of the first.

Speaking to reporters, Erdogan admitted that there had been problems with the state's initial response to the earthquake, but insisted that the situation was "under control".

During his visit, he met with some of the survivors of the earthquake that struck Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning.
