Lebanon has become one of the main topics of the two-month-long negotiations between Iran and the United States on the nuclear issue. US Vice President JD Vance has stated that Lebanon is one of the two main files being discussed in the talks taking place in Switzerland.

At the same time, several regional powers, such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan, are trying to find a solution for the future of Lebanon and to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they continue to control.

Last week, Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri visited Ankara, where he held meetings with senior Turkish officials, including Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.

According to diplomatic sources, Turkey believes that there is a real disagreement between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Lebanese front.

Ankara considers this an important opportunity to push Israel towards withdrawing from southern Lebanon.

Turkey is also promoting an Ankara-Damascus-Beirut axis of cooperation to curb Israeli influence in the region. However, according to sources, Ankara does not support the idea of sending Syrian troops to Lebanon to confront Hezbollah, as this could cause new tensions between the Sunni and Shiite communities.

Turkish officials are seeking to strengthen relations between Lebanon and Syria through political and security cooperation, as well as resolving outstanding issues between the two countries.

Regarding Hezbollah, Turkey believes that an agreement can be reached with Iran to limit the group's military role. Iraq is being cited as a model, where some Iranian-backed militias have agreed to have their weapons placed under state control.

Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun is seen as closer to Egypt, Greece and Cyprus than to Turkey. However, according to the report, efforts are being made to organize a meeting between him and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Diplomatic sources emphasize that Turkey does not intend to present itself as a protector of the Sunni community in Lebanon, but is acting on geopolitical grounds, considering the country an important part of the new balances in the Middle East.
