Billionaire Elon Musk today announced the creation of a new political party in the US, called the America Party, describing it as an alternative to the current political system, which he says is gripped by corruption.

The announcement was made through a post on the social network "X", owned by Musk himself.

"You wanted a new political party, you'll get it! If the country is heading for bankruptcy through corruption and waste, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is born, to give you back your freedom," Musk declared.

The move comes at a time of open tensions between Musk and US President Donald Trump. The two figures have clashed publicly recently, with Trump accusing Musk of "political games" and disloyalty, while Musk has distanced himself from the President's extreme positions, suggesting that the US needs a new approach beyond the polarization of Trump and Biden.

On July 4, Independence Day, Musk conducted a poll on “X,” asking Americans if they wanted a new political party. 65% of participants voted “yes,” while 35% said no.

Musk's move could further disrupt the American electoral landscape, while it remains to be seen whether the America Party will officially enter the race for the next presidential election.
