A license plate and helmet are required to go out on the road.

Italy becomes the next country to tighten the rules for the circulation of electric scooters on city streets. This special decree by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport aims to remove these means of transport from anonymity and, moreover, to increase safety measures.

The new rules stipulate the placement of a license plate in a visible position for each such electric vehicle. The license plate will be taken from the authorities and will also serve as a way to register such vehicles. In many cases of accidents, such vehicles remain unidentified due to the lack of a license plate. The same thing happens in cases of violation of traffic rules.

Another rule stipulates that adults must wear helmets. This, according to authorities, would increase safety measures on the road. The new law also stipulates penalties for violators, ranging from 100 to 400 euros.

With these measures, Italy aims to regulate the partial measures taken by certain cities throughout the country.

Several countries around the world have already tightened regulations on these electric vehicles. Rental skateboards are banned in Paris from September 1, 2023, after a referendum in which 90% of citizens voted. Malta has banned rentals throughout the country.

Finland has set an age limit, not allowing use under 15 years old.

There are also bans or restrictions in Ireland, Great Britain, and even Singapore and Melbourne, Australia.
