Police in California arrested an armed man who approached Donald Trump's rally in California. Shortly after the event, Sheriff Chad Bianco went to a press conference, where he explained the entire dynamics of the event.

The sheriff says Coachella, where the rally was held, had two security perimeters, an outer perimeter and an inner perimeter.

The suspect approached the outer perimeter, "gave all the indications that he was allowed to be there, he was allowed through that outer perimeter, after he got to that inner perimeter "a lot of irregularities appeared," the sheriff says.

Inside the vehicle was "quite a mess and there was a fake license plate, which prompted further investigation," he says.

Investigators found multiple passports with multiple names, multiple driver's licenses, the sheriff said, adding that the license plate was unregistered.

Sheriff Bianco then adds that the suspect was able to pass the second perimeter because "he claimed to be a journalist and claimed to have VIP status at the event."

Suspect Vem Miller told authorities he was a member of a far-right group called Sovereign Citizens, says Sheriff Bianco, who went public after authorities thwarted what could be called a third attempt to kill the Republican presidential candidate. President, Donald Trump.

He says the license plate was also "indicative of a group of individuals who claim to be Sovereign Citizens," but has not concluded that Miller was a member.

"I wouldn't say it's a militant group. It's just a group that doesn't believe in government control,” he says. "They don't believe that the government and the laws apply to them."
