The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has imposed sanctions on 4 Israeli settlers for violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

The order signed by the head of the White House states that the violence has reached extreme levels and therefore can no longer be tolerated.

The sanctions will block individuals from accessing all US property and other assets.

Violence in the West Bank has increased since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.

Meanwhile, earlier, during the annual Prayer Morning ceremony, the US president said that he sees the trauma, the death toll and the scale of destruction in Israel and Gaza and that he understands the pain that people in America and around the world are feeling.

He said the United States is actively committed to ending the Israel-Hamas war and bringing lasting peace to the Israeli and Palestinian people through the two-state solution.

"We appreciate and pray for those who lost their lives and the families of the victims. For all those who live in difficult conditions. Innocent men, women and children held hostage, bombed or displaced, not knowing when they will have another meal, or if they will have anything to eat. We not only pray for peace, but we are actively working for peace, security and dignity for the Israeli and Palestinian people. I am engaged day and night, working like many of you, to find ways to bring hostages home, to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and to bring peace to Gaza and Israel, a lasting peace with two states for two peoples" , Mr. Biden said.
