"Russian spies in the European Parliament", Latvian MEPs letter to the
Tatjana Zdanoka

Politics in Latvia has been rocked by an espionage scandal. An investigation by a local newspaper revealed that Tatjana Zdanoka, one of the oldest politicians and a member of the European Parliament, allegedly worked for years for the Russian secret service.

The country's prosecutor's office has started investigations against her, while the Latvian parliament has set up an investigative commission, which will verify her political activity. Zdanoka is one of the MEPs who opposed the imposition of sanctions against Russia in Brussels and refused to call the entry of the Russian army into Ukraine an invasion.

After the scandal, the deputies of Latvia who have warned that after Ukraine, Vladimir Putin will extend his military influence towards the Baltic countries, have sent an official letter to the institutions of the European Union. In the letter they say that in the European Parliament of 705 deputies there are other names that are part of the Russian secret services.

The MPs say that the institutions of the European Union should verify the public attitudes, the votes of the laws and the meetings that a large number of MPs have had regarding Russia.
