EU and G7 are considering the possibility of a complete ban on the transport of Russian oil

The European Union and G7 countries are considering a new punitive measure against Russia: a complete ban on shipping services by Western companies for transporting Russian oil. According to Reuters, this measure would replace the current price cap mechanism.

The decision is expected to be part of the next EU sanctions package, planned for early 2026, and will be accompanied by similar measures from G7 countries.

Reuters sources say the US and UK are pushing the proposal strongly in technical meetings of the group. However, four of the sources stress that US President Donald Trump's stance will depend on the results of his efforts to mediate an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
