The operatives of the Special Operations Department of the Carabinieri, in Italy, have arrested the sister of the boss of Cosa Nostra, Matteo Messina Denaro, on the charge of participating in a mafia organization.

According to investigators, Rosalia Messina Denaro helped her brother escape arrest for years and managed the family's finances and messaging network on his behalf, enabling the mafia boss to maintain connections with his people during the 30-year escape.

It was a message written on small scraps of paper about the health of the Cosa Nostra boss, found under the cushion of a chair in the woman's home, that gave investigators the clues that led to the arrest of the mafia boss on January 16 past.

Rosalia, the eldest of Messina Denaro's four sisters, has her husband and son sentenced to 16 and 14 years in prison for participating in a mafia organization.

According to the investigators of the Palermo Prosecutor's Office, Rosalia has been for years her brother's economic point of reference, his most trusted person who helped him escape arrest for serious crimes, as well as the man who enabled Cosa Nostra to have an authoritarian boss, which the members of the criminal organization could be proud of.
