Albin Kurti lost 100 thousand votes: After the elections, Brussels calls for the creation of a Government

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has emphasized that the elections in Kosovo have created the opportunity to end the political deadlock that has lasted for more than a year.

In a reaction on the social network "X", Kallas called on political leaders to act responsibly and constructively to ensure the rapid formation of new institutions.

"Kosovo, with its democratic and inclusive elections, has paved the way for leaving behind more than a year of political gridlock. Political leaders must now engage constructively to ensure the formation of a government as soon as possible," she declared.

The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has also asked political parties in Kosovo to find compromise and cooperate to ensure institutional stability after the elections.

Kosovo went to extraordinary elections after Vetëvendosje insisted on having its own president, denying itself a solid governing mandate of 51%, at a time when it had received 487,000 votes on December 28, 2025, which constituted the deepest electoral result in post-war history.

In the preliminary results, this party appears to have lost over 100,000 votes and between seven and nine parliamentary mandates, or in percentage terms it fell from 49.3 to 42.9%.

With this result, Albin Kurti cannot form the Government alone.
