A former Royal Marine accused of assisting Hong Kong's intelligence service has been found dead. Local authorities announce that the dead body found in a park in Maidenhead, a town in England belongs to 37-year-old Matthew Trickett.
His death is being treated as unusual and unexplained, while the medical services are carrying out a full examination and expertise to discover the causes that may have led to the 37-year-old's death.
Detectives have appealed to any citizen who may have been in the park to give evidence to find out the cause of death which is considered by experts to be unusual.
Trickett was a Home Office immigration officer who had previously served as a Royal Marine for six years. He was also a director of a security firm called MTR Consultancy.
Last week he and several other people were charged under the National Security Act with selling information to Hong Kong.
Between December 20, 2023 and May 2, 2024, they are accused of agreeing to undertake information gathering, surveillance and acts of deception that could materially assist a foreign intelligence service.
It is also alleged that they forced entry into a UK residence on May 1. The three accused spoke only to confirm their identities during their court appearances, have not entered pleas and have been released on bail pending an appearance at the Old Bailey.
